Welcome to my new blog!

Well, kids, here it is. My new spot for the blog. Some of you may wonder why I took the original down. Ill tell you. Simply, I have a new, exciting radio show. And for that new show, I need a new blog. The old blog was just an extension of what was. This is an extension of what is.

I know alot of you have been hammering the fan sites and the hate site about how my new show isnt as good as the old one. Simply, who fucking cares what you think. You might not like it, but I do. In fact, TRN likes it so much, they pay me for it. Green talks more than a bunch of internet cry babies. Im going to do the show I want to do, not what you want me to do.

Stop emailing me from the BSP telling how much I suck, it doesnt matter what you say.

Now, for real topics, hit up my show and my website. Phil Hendrie Show.

Phil, may you fare better than Michael Jordan did when he abandoned the NBA for an exciting new career in baseball.

Andrew-
People way bigger than you, in way larger positions of influence have all said that. And you know what? It doesnt matter what happens, cause Ill do what brings in the bread. Its that simple. Ive seen the fan sites, and they are all the same. People that have shunned be for giving them the bird are actually listening to what they call a shitty show. Hey brother, keep listening to my shit, cause thats what the advertisers like. Now go away.

Hey, Phil, I think you've earned the right to do whatever show you want, and if people listen and advertisers buy and TRN pays you, God bless you. But the kind of show you're doing now isn't all that exciting to me. I am grateful for all the laughter and joy you've brought me in the past - more than you can imagine - and I sincerely thank you for that. Knock 'em dead.

Welcome back Phil... we've missed you!

Frankly, I'm not sure if the new show is my cup of tea, but I'll stick around for a while to see what developes.

I truly do wish you much success with the new show.

Any dips in the pool or make out sessions with the girl during breaks yet?

I also agree that your new show is way better than your old one! Your fresh and unique takes on immigration, gun control and the Iraq War are a breath of fresh air! Nobody else on radio are tackling these important issues and I am very grateful that finally somebody has stepped up to the plate!

The only entertaining part of your show was when the commercials starting playing while you were still rambling about another tired and boring topic

Please please please bring back your old characters! That is where your real talent lies!

So full of hatered Phil all just because your new show sucks. It has only been two nights. My prediction is the advertisers will see that you are tanking in the ratings an drop you like a hot potato I bet within a few months the big wigs at TRN will be saying try your old format this one is tanking. I will lambaste trn with calls on how much your show SUCKS. We the public will determine what we listen to not you Phil so get ready here comes a shitstorm with you in the middle hehehehe

Hi Phil. I'd just like to start off by saying that I'm writing this purely as a loyal Phil Hendrie fan. I'm not a "hater", as I know some people who have messaged you clearly are...I've been listening to you for a good 10 years. I've even come to support you at the tapings of Teachers, and have donated to My Friends Place due to your talking about what a worthwhile organization it is. That being said, I can clearly see both sides of the coin here, i.e. your views vs. "the haters'" views. I just want to briefly add my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

I had no problem with you leaving radio to pursue other interests, i.e. TV. I was definitely sad to see you go, because it was like 30 of the funniest people I knew so well died when you left. I did understand you being done with terrestrial radio after your lengthy commentaries about the industry, executives, etc. You said something along the lines of how you didn't feel you could go any farther with your show in that type of environment. Fair enough.

What I can't quite clearly grasp however, is your current path, and why it seems like you've alienated many loyal fans like myself. I understand your anger towards those who have shunned you and said hurtful things to you in the past year. I even understand why you want to have a completely new radio show, more commentary and less comedy. What I can't understand though, is a complete reversal on your part, and an attitude that it's just all about the money, and that you could care less what people like me think.

A year ago you had a successful radio show, syndicated in what, over 100 markets? What made it so great was that it was completely different than everything else out there. You poked fun at traditional talk radio and used ignorant callers as pawns for our amusement. You were named one of the funniest people in Los Angeles.

My mother always said, stick with what you do best. In my honest opinion, what you're doing now isn't what you do best. You're now hosting a show that the old Phil Hendrie would find completely and utterly mind-numbingly boring and traditional. It would clearly have its own place on the RC Collins Blows-A-Meter. (I can only go by the first 2 nights, of course.) The Phil Hendrie Show is now just another Rusty Humphries-type bland commentary show. It pains me to hear you talk to the same ignorant callers you've spent your whole career making fun of. Given the time of the show, these callers are probably the worst of the worst...up at midnight calling into a talk radio show?? Hey, if the executives at TRN pay you well for it, that's wonderful...and if that's all you really care about, what can I really say? Some part of me still clings to the hope that you came back to radio partly to bring some sort of stimulation (intellectual or otherwise) to the people you should be caring most about...the listeners.

Here's my plea: if it's only about "bringing in the bread", then truly bring back "The World Famous Phil Hendrie Show." Bring back RC. Bring back Bobby. Bring back Herb. Bring back Bud. Bring back Jeff. Bring back uniqueness. Bring back humor. Bring back the Phil we all know and love. Bring back what's made you great, since you started talking in an Iraqi voice in a little station in Ventura, California. What you're doing now is the same stuff that's on every talk radio station in America. It certainly isn't "World Famous." I'm sure you can still find ample time to include your own commentary in a show where you'll be well-compensated. At the same time, you'd be doing the kind of show that made you a success in the first place.

When you left us a year ago, that was truly the Death of Talk Radio. Please, Phil, bring talk radio back to life.

-Craig

Don't let the Bloggers get you down. Remember your motto "Talk Radio Callers and Talk Radio listeners are two different animals." and simply apply that to the bloggers. Phil, you are the entertainer and I am the entertained. I couldn't care less how you choose to format your show, I just want to be able to hear it. I live in NYC and simple can't stay up from 1 to 4 in the morning. Please post the MP3's on your site. I've got a backstage pass and I can't hear the new shows. Please help me, I must hear your new shows.

Well, I would say that I like the new show...if I could hear it. It's sort of tough when I live in the Central timezone and it starts at midnight. It would be nice if I could listen the day after (like I used to do with the "old" show) while working via...oh, I don't know..the Phil Hendrie Show website that I pay a monthly subscription for. Hey Phil, I realize that a lot of people think your new show may suck, but i'm not one of them. When I first read that you were going to be back on the air I was counting down the days until June 25th and I was so glad to hear you back on the air,
Listening to some of the material from the old show I think what people don't realize is that while the old show was mostly comedy based, most of it was you giving your opinions on various topics and that's what this show is about, you giving your thoughts on various topics. Whatever you decide to do though, me and the real Phil Hendrie fans will support you. Hopefully, somebody in Seattle will pick the show up so I can hear the show in it's entirety. Phil keep up the good work, you rock.

Hey Phil-

I'm glad your back on the air. I actually called your show last night as "Vernon" the drywall guy who thought it was possible that the wrestler killed his family by accident. Demonstrating wrestling techniques or some shit like that. I thought it would be something Austin Amarca would say.

I did it as a goof. No disrespect. I'll keep listening to your show and support you. That's what a fan does.

Would it kill you though to maybe slip in a Bob Green bit or a Austin Amarka bit somewhere? Maybe during the middle hour? Maybe a new character? Whatever...do your thing.

You remind me of a famous musician that wrote a hit song. Even though he got famous for the tune and it brought him worldwide acclaim, he can't fucking stand it anymore. He doesn't want to perform it. But the fans love the song and want to hear him sing it.

Hit the Don Julio for me!

So...What exactly constitutes as a "real" fan, "Scooby"? I don't happen to be in love with the new show, but I still listen to and enjoy Phil's archives on a daily basis. I certainly don't send him ugly emails by way of the BSP, but I suppose I'm a "hater" for not loving 100% of what he does?

As a fan who has supported you and loved your show for ages, Phil, I resent being lumped in with the likes of good old anonymous up there who likes to go to the idiotic extreme with the YOU SUCKage. That's 4chan bullshit.

I hope you'll differentiate between us and not just lump us all in together as assholes just because we may not be totally sold on your new show format.

I wholeheartedly wish you the best in all that you do, Phil, because along with loving your old show and recognizing what an awesome talent you are, I think you're a good guy and a decent man. I really don't think that classifies me as a "hater."

Jack Muhogoff said...

Hey Phil,

Do you have any desire to at least respond to the criticism that your new show is basically the exact format that your old show satirized? Isn't this a glaring hypocrisy? I suppose the answer is in the post... you don't care, you're just in it for the money now. Congrats.

Also, although this new show may be "new" to you, I hope you don't mean "new" in the sense of groundbreaking and different than anything else I can hear on the talk radio dial. If you think it is, I'd very much like to hear your opinion on why.

Thanks,
Jack

Scoobyfan1 said...

basically animatrixie what I was saying is that people who keep "hating" on Phil and sending him nasty e-mails just because his new show isn't exactly like his old show just need to keep listening to the show. The only way that you can tell if the show's good or not is to listen, you can't tell if a show's good or not just because somebdoy at message board says it's not good. I listen to archived material from Phil's old shows on a regular basis and I certainly don't complain that his new show sucks just because you've only heard two days of it so far, to quote one of Phil's old Premiere colleagues Jim Rome "give the show 2 weeks, if you like it good, if you don't that's okay, just give it time." That's the best advice I can give to any Phil Hendrie fans who think the new show sucks, right now as a matter of fact i'm listening to an MP3 of Phil's first new show that another fan sent me and I think so far it's really good .

Phil... if you ever read this, please know you're an awesome guy, I've always loved your work, but really... Even if it's been two nights so far, this show is boring.

I listen to Bill Handel and John and Ken here in Cali, these kinds of subjects you're talking about are, to be honest, stretched beyond belief. These subjects "have" been talked about, we hate to hear them repeated over and over and over. We GET IT! The last thing I want is to hear another guy talking about a subject that's been drilled over and over on the radio like Rush Limbaugh (yuck) especially at night when all that stuff has been done and dealt with.

At 10:00 at night, I want to be able to go to sleep satisfied after listening to something different after the long day. I guess that's why we have tv (and I have no cable) to be entertained after all the constant daily routines of news and commentaries... It might be different for other folks I'm sure, but me personally, I miss the old Phil Hendrie show. When I hear "World famous Phil Hendrie show" I look for what the show was about, this should be considered the "New Phil Hendrie Show". You had great commentaries inbetween these hilarious skits, which I'm sure by now you're sick of doing, but there needs to be something else to your show... Find that on switch again and keep your listeners tuned in, especially at such late freakin' hours of the night. I'm still working on things at night, and having your show on is kind of making me fall asleep. I'm sorry to say this.

You can have your opinions, your commentaries, your way of speaking, but make it FUN! Make your point in a way that people will WANT to hear it and understand it. I mean, I hate to give the example, but look at SOuth Park, they're the sickest show on tv, but tey still give off valid points to their episodes... well at times. But as I said, this is just me. I don't want to tune out of your work, I want to enjoy it because you're a great guy.

You can call me a stupid fan and a hater all you want, but label or not, I'm a LISTENER! These guys who are posting consistent BS and copy and paste repeats of "yousuck" obviously don't understand, so listen to the ones that actually CARE.

Anonymous said...

AWD!, he doesn't care about you, why do you care about him?

Anonymous said...

He obviously does care otherwise he wouldn't go to the message board in the first place

Anonymous said...

He cares enough to repeatedly tell us he doesn't care. Hmm. I'm confused.

I like the new show. I like best is when you talk about stuff you've done, like visit a day spa in the desert. Anyway, Good luck. You're a pro. Please don't let the haters guide you at all. Sorry, know you don't like ass kissers.

Anonymous said...

Wow Tim, if all Phil's fans are as cool as you, I'm sure he's gonna love 'em! We all know how much Phil likes his listeners, especially the rampant fanboys and borderline retards.

Duane said...

Hey Phil,

I support you 100%!

One thing the "haters" need to understand: being an artist is all about growth. If you don’t grow, you stagnate. That's why, for example, so many rock bands from the 70's flamed out after a few years. They shot their wad and had nothing new to say when the 80's came around. Bands like Rush are an exception because they had the courage to tell a significant portion of their fans to "Go to hell -- we're going to write the music we want to write." Oddly enough, they're still selling out 12,000 seat arenas while their contemporaries are working the state fair circuit playing their old catalogues.

Please know that while the internet has given any jackball who desires one a sledge hammer and a megaphone, voices like the ones who are criticizing your new direction only represent themselves; there are hundreds of thousands more who DON'T waste their time on frivilous websites who will support your honest efforts.

Best of luck! -- duane

Phil,

I work for your Nashville affiliate and I am excited as hell that you are on our airwaves. As a fan of your last show I am embarassed to be associated with some of these unreasonable morons. I cannot imagine how frustrating it had to be explaining the concept of the old show to sales managers and program directors. You are a Ferrari in a Yugo industry and I have no doubt that your show will develop into a top notch and unique program. Cheers!!

Anonymous said...

You'll be doing voices inside a month, easy. You don't really have a choice. It's that or nothing.

Anonymous said...

Phil, your attitude towards your fans is deplorable. Your obviously not a smart business person or you would know not treat people like this. My only explanation for this is perhaps your ego is way out of control. You had a niche that was brilliant and second to none. However now your just another clown in a sea of clowns, and with a bad attitude to boot. How long do you think this is going to fly? If your so hard up for money these days, why not really start over and pick another profession.

Anonymous said...

"My only explanation for this is perhaps your ego is way out of control."

Gee, ya think? Don't forget, this is the man who "invented satire." Although apparently now he's too good for satire.

Im Scared said...

First, to the people that support the new show and my return to radio, thanks. You are the true fans that make this worth doing, mostly. The money is great, and that makes it worth doing too.

Now, to what we call the haters, Ill try to address each one of you sorry rubes one at a time.

fafa-TRN has the best marketing on the planet. How do you think they can take that Rustie Humphries dude and make him worth listening to? They are out getting thier committed affiliates to carry his show. Its talk radio, man, people will listen to this crap all night long, just to think they are informed. So you keep calling TRN and the 20 or so stations that are currently carrying my show and waste your time.

Craig--my two cents, STFU. The old show is dead and rotting. It aint comming back brother, get over it. So take your mommas advice, stick to what you do good at, and suck my dick. Stop quoting my lines that you wish you could come up with. Done.

Roy--Nice try thinking you called in. This reminds me, any of you douche bags think of trying to get on my show to cause a stir, Ill dump you like a bad habit, and you will never even get close to being on my show. Savvy?

Jack--The new show is a new direction. You might call it a sellout, I call it progress. Simply, there is no demand for the old show. On the other hand, there is room for hundreds of, what you bitches call, boring talk shows. Boring talk shows by top talent brings in the advertisers and brings in the bread. Momma didnt raise a fool.

AWD--Where to begin? First for Handel, John and Ken and the rest of my KFI buds, those guys are solid in thier market at KFI. But the truth is, they dont have what it takes become syndicated with their shows. John and Ken tried it, and Clear Channel put a smackdown on that. But, Im not Bill Handel, or a John or Ken. Honestly, Im a little miffed at the fact that they moved me to KLAC for that John Ziegler, but hey it was all about the bread and all about ratings for them too. They did what they had to, but in the end, so did I. So, if you want some sleep, you should listen to some easy listening station or something, not my show or George Norrys show. Now, get off it and call Dr Laura for some advice.

Shawn--Downloadable archives is something we are working on. Granted, we arent working on it very hard, as we just started the show, and it might be a while to get the ball rolling. If its a problem staying up to listen to my show, I suggest a some PCP or speed or something. That should keep you going for days, and you might get some laundry done.

Donald--Nice try into getting me to cave and do the old show. Its not happening, not now, not ever. If the Nashville station doesnt like it, maybe they should hit up Coast to Coast and figure out how to make a time machine or something. Once you figure that out, fire that bitch up, and kidnap me from the past. Short of that, the old show is gone.

Im Scared said...

Shit, I post and a shit load of more posts, and fairly good ones too. Let me see if I can knock those out before banging my lovely girlfriend.

Not a chance that I will be doing voices within a month. And no, Im not baiting listeners to set them up for later. This is the show. If you dont like it, get the fuck out.

Trent--Fuck you.

The guy after trent--Fuck you too.

That should hold ya.

Anonymous said...

Sorry that I was not clear. Nashville IS happy to have you. I am ashamed that so many of these "so called" fans of yours cannot move-on. Talk about a bunch of selfish assholes. I am a backstage pass holder and there is plenty of the old show for me to listen to. Frankly, a lot of times I enjoyed your commentary on current events more than the characters. That said, I am looking forward to listening to the new show. Good luck.

Again...I don't have an opinion either way on the new show. It's just on too late for us "normals" to listen to. I'd like to, but I can't.

I loved the old show. I am a backstage pass holder. In fact, I will continue to listen to the old show with that backstage pass. Makes me wonder something, though. Is the "new podcast" done now that you have a regular radio gig again? If so, are we just basically using the backstage pass for old stuff and getting NOTHING new? Or are you just going to try to sell access to MP3's off the TRN site of the new show? You know...a little double-dipping?

Anonymous said...

You won't be doing character voices in a month? I guess it'll be a couple of months, then. It's all you do. You sit there and say "It's not what people want," but it should be clear that it's ALL people want. It's what you're good at and you WILL be doing it again or be off of radio. Just make us laugh, you trained monkey. We'll tune in then. Oh, and and say hi to Taffy for me. ;)

Im Scared said...

The backstage pass thing is something we are brainstorming with TRN about. Their other hosts dont seem to have an archive like we do, so this is something new for all of us. I cant say a whole lot at the moment, but we are trying to figure out a way to integrate it all into one subscription. Problem with that seems to be that I would be taking a smaller cut if we go with TRNs usual rates for streaming. The money isnt that important, but it makes all the difference in this world. There is also a discussion that we might create a new website for the new show, since it is completely different from what was. There are alot of things we need to figure out, but it will work out eventually.

Im Scared said...

Benoits-balls--The old show isnt happening, ever. You dumbasses think you know what the deal is, but you dont. The old show isnt happening, in any form, ever. I toss you lameasses a little Barry White, and a little Dickman, but thats as much as your going to get.

I know you little whores get a hard on when you think you hear a funny voice, and thats enough to keep you baited and keep you listening. Its all part of a plan. You will be sucked into my new show, as shitty as you think it is, and will continue to listen. So, yeah, Ill chuck you a two second voice, and you can run to your vaseline and rub one out.

Trying to be constructive

I listened to your old show and shows like your new one - I enjoy both formats. I understand your desire to break with the past.

If you are going to make a serious effort at this new format, you are going to have to be competitive on some level. I don't think these stations are handing out deals to any person that comes along. So please learn from those that have had success with your new show format. I don't know if that means taking notes on their show setup or what. Frankly, I don't give a crap if they are left or right - just learn from those that are good at what they do in your new format.

I would not mind listening to your new show, but your current "chops" in the new format are lacking to say the very least. It is good to hear you back on the air again - please work on the quality.
