Lets give this another try.....

I have always tried to be controversial, tried to instill a bit of scepticism in people, and I think that was a success with my new blog, and the first new post since I took down my old one.

The original blog was dead and in need of a makeover. It was my decision to start anew. And thats my right. And you can say "Ah hell, thats not Phil, its some poser." Fine with me. You can believe what you want. Those are the same people that thought and think that I will revert to my old show. Even after breaking down reality to you guys, you still think its a matter of time before I break into a Ted Bell bit, or get Bud to give me a hand, or even get David G. Hall to put a boot up my ass. I know you people have no lives, other than your devotion to me, but its not happening, ever. And here is why:

When I left my show last year, it was a real bitch to get ownership over my site, and over all my matierial. Truth is, alot of my old classic stuff is still tied up on various Clear Channel stations and subject to alot of headache to get ahold of. There are a bunch of brainiacs out there saying "What you dont have tapes of your own stuff?" Simply, sometimes tapes were made, lost, recorded over, or never made or archived. Its like that. In this industry, every single personality, from Stern to Combover will tell you they had some great stuff they did a long time ago, but the tapes are lost. Im not sure if its the gravitational force of Michael Moores huge fat ass or the sucking sound of Sean Penn, but they are lost. Its an enormous effort to get some of that matierial.

If I were to do my old show, any new matierial would be subject to ownership of TRN. TRN is a bunch of great folks, but I really dont want to have to fight for some Herb Sewell bits. Its nothing against them, but its just something that has to be. Now, if in 16 more years, Im still doing this gig and end up retiring, whos going to want to hear old segments of my history lessons on Hitler and the SS?

What I did with the show prior to June 2006 is classic stuff. I would be lying to you if I said that some of that old shit didnt make me almost loose my mud laughing. It cracks me up to this day. I cant live up to that show at its peak. What is done is done. If they ever induct me into the Radio Hall of Fame, thats what it will be based on, and thats something that I am proud of. It would be like Bill Murray trying to do some of his old stuff in his old age. Imagine a 70 year old bill running after a ghost; just isnt going to work. Caddyshack was funny, but it can never happen again. Same thing with my old show. It just cant be done again.

I'm willing to give the new show a shot. Hey if Rush can do it why not you?

Don't be so hard on all these people who are upset. There anger only shows their love for the show you did.

This makes alot more sense now that you mention it because I know how networks can be about original material. But with that also said, it is kind of sad to know that we'll lose the old Phil Hendrie show (not that I'm going to stop listening to the archives.) I'm just looking forward and hope your new show spices up a bit more, I'm not saying stop it and go back to your old routines, that wasn't my point. I just want to hear you, hear your opinions and still be entertained, which you do, but dramatic change just strikes real hard I guess. That's just me, and no offense to you at all. I wish you the best Phil, honest. So good luck, keep at it.

Then why the hell did you make website content promises and continue to charge us for the content after the show was done? Once CC started giving you crap about ownership, you should have let all the subscribers know. The podcasts? The podcasts were awful. You still own the characters and your comedy bits were always funny. You never gave that medium a chance to be successful - a medium in which you would have maintained ownership of all material. Ass.

Phil-

You should have stated all that from the start. That post made a lot of sense. We idiots that listen to talk radio and have no idea how the business is run needed that.

Your old shit is classic. Not just classic talk radio, but classic Comedy/theater/performance art. That being said, as a BSP holder for nearly 5 years, I'm going to hit the computer hard and gobble that good stuff up. Keep up that old site, please. I would like to get as much of those bits as possible. Especially those great shows before, during, and after 9/11. Those post 9/11 shows were great. Please work on making them available as much as possible.

Last year, when you announced your retirement, I was bummed. When I heard you were coming back, I was jazzed. Work hard at your show, no matter what the format. If its good, people will listen.

I did call your show last night and tried to do some lame bit with the wrestler...next time I call, I'll use my real name, talk about the subject at hand and do it right.

Keep on keepin' on.

Phillip--Great name, by the way. Thats what is contraversial about my new show, its different than what everyone expected. It may take a while to get used to, even by me, but it is what it is.

The 'haters' are all the same whiners that were pissed when I flipped them off in March. It doesnt matter now. Those jokers at SFJ showed their skins when they turned on me. Not to toot my own horn, but if it wasnt for my original endorsement, that site would would have faded away with my old show. Now they are a massive Combover Boy-type forum that really isnt very funny and shows what kind of children are there. Truth be told, its probably for the better good that that happened the way it did.

Im not forcing anyone to listen to my show, but Im sure it will pick up and it wont be long before I get back into the swing of things.

Lester--You are completely right. I just want you to suck my cock, and lighten up on the teeth like a good bitch.

Jeff--I like everyone else that was a fan assumed that the site would have transfered ownership to me fairly quickly. Reality is that never happened. It was a fight almost from the very beginning. PRN sealed thier fate with me ever doing anything for them again by the hoops I had to jump through.

You think the podcasts suck? You might think they do, but again, people think my new show sucks too, yet people are listening to it. As for not letting the medium make my show a success, what do you think I did for 16 years? It stagnated at 98-100 affiliates for over a year. In this industry, if there is no growth, shit starts to roll downhill. And now that I have some ownership of my old bits, I intend to keep it that way.

Roy--Hey, sorry to get your pussy all sandy with my first post. It happens. PhilHendrieshow.com will be up for as long as I can keep it up. If this show tanks like so many predict, Ill suck dick to keep it going if I have to. No, wait, Ill sell Lester to suck dick to keep it up.

I know alot of hype from all sides, TRN, me, and the internet suggested that I would introduce some comedy in this new version. Thats all comming. Theres a build up at this point. It will not be the old show, but maybe something even more entertaining than a paroled child molester. I dont yet know what that is, but something will pop out of my ass. The hype by my fans for the new show was alot like the hype for this dingy new iPhone. Hey jackballs, its just a fancy expensive phone. Same thing here, its just a radio show.

I was talking about the podcasting medium - you never let the podcasting medium be a success and it would have let you maintain ownership. The podcasts weak compared to what I know you are capable. I understand the need to be an artist and explore your creative vision. I would have kept paying if the podcasts had been that, instead it sounded like you just phoned it in to keep the subscribers paying. If you didn't want to do the old characters, fine. Go with your vision, follow your bliss, but don't half-ass it and ask loyal fans to pay for it.

Im Scared said...

Boo-Hoo Jeff. If I had a nickel for every whiny cunt like you, I wouldnt need to work. Get over yourself. I didnt owe you those podcasts, consider them gifts from the divine. Stop wasting my time.

Phil,

I think it's great that you are pursuing what you want to do, not what others want or expect. Frankly, the people who are so hateful now were never actually fans of you personally in the first place, but rather of your old show. Their rejection at this point proves that they are not interested in you as a person, but only in your ability to give them laughs.

To them I say, $6.99 a month is all they need to get over 6 years of the show, plus hundreds of bits, so quit crying!

Also, I am glad that a few myopic, childish, and frankly the skidmarks of society, demostrated by their racist, childish remarks, are not going to influence you one way or the other.

Thanks for being you, and please let us know when we can podcast your new show. I would love to tune in, but my schedule forces me to miss out.

Best regards to you Phil,
Roy in Fort Collins.

First of all, its great you are back. The original show is the greatest radio show in history, and the new one has been entertaining right out of the gate.

I want to comment on the "haters", I don't know how much time you've ever spent on fan sites and forums of other famous people but this is par for the course. There are always a few idiots who are obsessed with you and demonstrate it by spamming boards with negative crap. Their known as trolls. You have several of these losers on your tail, but its only a few sad people. I have been on several boards and chats since you went back on the air, there are a lot of people who like the show so far, and even more who really like your stuff and are giving it a chance. Why paint everyone with the same brush and alienate new and old fans by lumping them in with the very vocal but in the minority trolls.

I'm also glad your second post showed your pride in the original show. I have no problem with the idea that the show is the past and not coming back, but I hate to think its "dead and buried". It should be celebrated and shared with people. Bill Murray shouldn't be doing Caddyshack films now, but they should be putting out new DVDs every few years so more people can discover it.

Enjoy your success and fans.

Im Scared said...

You say there are new fan sites? Ive been seeing alot of hate sites. You got a quick list of those sites. maybe Ill give them a look over sometime this week.

I always liked your take on things, because even if I didn’t always agree with you, you had the ability to put forth a coherent & sensible argument. As for the new show, I have no clue, since all I’ve been able to hear was an 8-minute clip on Youtube.
From what I heard, I don’t know how in the hell you’ll be able to keep it up indefinitely (listening to the sweet old lady drone on and on about immigration, I was just waiting for you to snap and/or have an aneurism). I know the old show is gone – more power to you, Phil. But you have always been too genuine a character to say to some idiot – with a fake “smile” in your voice “thanks for your call, friend.” I’m sure the show will continue to flow and improve once you get your “legs.”
In the meantime, I love the new blog – it’s like a big “your-mama” contest. I hope the haters never leave. Too bad they can’t understand that you couldn’t do the old show even if you wanted to (no stubborn old mick is gonna let any know-nothing fan tell him how to run his show).
I don’t know if the old site is still the cash cow it once was, but I do hope that you continue to update it on a somewhat regular basis for the remaining BSP holders.
-Eddie
P.S. I’m also damn glad you mentioned that whole KFI fiasco. I remember at the time thinking how humiliating & disrespectful the whole mess was, not even being privy to the SoCal radio scene. I started to realize at that point that the classic PHS wasn’t long for this world. Long live the new PHS!

Phil,

I'm not quite sure why you get so upset when someone says that your podcasts weren't as funny as your broadcast material. You yourself in your "Lets give this another try...." flat out say "I cant live up to that show at its peak." That in of itself means that the Podcasts (post broadcast) weren't as good as your broadcast material.

I was a Backstage Pass Holder from early 2000 until about three or so months ago.

I went to the Las Vegas get together with my then fiance, now wife. The Luxor was a cool hotel.

I supported My Friends Place b/c you were so passionate about it that I figured it must be a terrific cause (and it was/is).

But, frankly, while the Podcasts were initially OK, they weren't worth the price of a BSP fee anymore, at least to me. While the Rose Bowl Parade was great, the Madden Play by Play lost the novelty after about # 5 or 6. It was nothing personal, just wasn't what I wanted to purchase any longer.

But I don't think it's reasonable for you to say, "I didnt owe you those podcasts, consider them gifts from the divine." Right now at philhendrieshow.com you have a box that says "Get your Backstage Pass!" The very first line underneath it says "brand new podcasts." Thus, isn't the clear, unambiguous implication that if someone signs up for a BSP, they'll get, first and foremost, brand new podcasts? Isn't that what their 'owed?'

Perhaps you'll drop a couple of curse words at me for this. Eh, do whatever ya like, as my skin is both old and thick. I personally wish you nothing but the best for your new show. If you make those shows available on your website, I might very well sign up for BSP again, as I can't stay up much past the first hour and still be functional at work the next day.

In any event Phil, I hope you enjoyed my BSP money as much as I enjoyed your material. At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, your insight in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 was among some of the most poignant and meaningful broadcasting - heck, journalism - I've ever heard. Period. Your old show was certainly the most uniquely entertaining ever on the medium.

So if people have a hard time letting go... is that so difficult to understand? But, like the Beatles said, to everything, turn, turn, turn.

Good luck w/ the new gig!

Phil

The Milwaukee Lions games are pure Hendrie genius. W-A-N-G

Phil...

Please... please, please, please, please keep doing your podcasts!!!

Also, I know the new show will take a little time to build momentum. I am a fan of your work and you personally, so I'll certainly be listening and rooting for you, the new show and all things Hendrie! I do hope the show will be available for download... without having to pay another fee. Making it part of the BSP would be ideal.

I think it's cool that you're doing your show from your abode. I always wondered if Art Bell was taking one on the ol' meat whistle while doing his show. Phil, besides doing shows in your underwear, what other fun things might you do during your show now that you're at home?

Phil, on the old show, you always seemed to have a unique brand of contempt for callers. I hope you don't take that as insulting; I generally had the same contempt -- that's what made it funny.

I think in a lot of ways this is reflected on your blog posts, which is sort of entertaining. But not so much on the new show, you seem to be a bit mellower. You should save it for the air, man.

Remember when you were getting that pool put in, and the company made a nightmare out of the job? Tuning in every night to hear the latest chapter in that saga was great.

If you had to give a percentage, how much of your new show do you anticipate being comedy, and how much non-comedy?

ROB said...

Phil-This new blog is great. Very entertaining stuff. It's great to read some of your angry yet funny comments. I'm hoping it transfers over to the new show a bit more though. Most of the callers you've gotten the first 2 nights need a good beat down. You've gone too easy on them; raise some hell man!

Phil-

Thanks so much for telling me to suck your dick. That was a real professional response to my thoughtful reply to your first message. I gave you the benefit of the doubt when it came to your criticism of the SFJ fans, but now I can see that they were right all along, unfortunately.

It really is sad to see such a creative talent fall so dramatically. What are you going to be talking about on your show tonight, Phil...Iraq, Paris Hilton, Immigration, Chris Benoit? My guess is all of the above.

It's a real convenient excuse to say that you cant be as creative as you were a mere year ago. I guess it makes sense though, being how thoughtless, arrogant, and self-absorbed you come across now. (Or maybe you were like that all along?)

Maybe I'll be like you, Phil, and tell you to suck my dick. While you're at it, suck the dicks of all the loyal Phil Hendrie Show fans who have been with you through thick and thin. Who have bought your CDs, come to the tapings of your failed TV shows, and subscribed to your Backstage Pass. While although you've shunned all of us, we'll still keep the "World Famous" Phil Hendrie Show fresh in our minds. Your characters will live on through us, whether you like it or not.

Have tons of fun there in Thousand Oaks banging your "girlfriend" and drinking tequila, while talking about all the mind-blowing topics of the day. As a 26 year-old law student, I can clearly say that I know the path not to take in life, partly thanks to you. That is, becoming successful at a certain craft, trying to advance yourself further, failing, and then instead of going back to what made you a success, telling all of your original fans to "suck your dick" and then doing something that you've criticized for the past 16 years.

Allow me to use another of your lines (since I wish I was like you and could come up with this stuff) and say,

take a piece of fat and slide off.

Phil -

No one was more excited than I was when I found out you were returning to Radio - You were truly an ICON for me, I told EVERYONE about you, but WTF? No announcements about your new show AT ALL except for a lame "Header" on your Website for weeks with no Real Story to go along with it it...And what is TRN? Their stable of hosts are ridculous and that photo of Savage makes him look like he's propped up like Steven Hawking - SUPER WEIRD...

But the question I have about your return is why wouldn't you be shouting it from the rooftops? Even though it is a different show, you have (had) a VERY LOYAL fan base. That seems curious to me - is this like Sharon Stone not doing a lot of press for Basic Instinct 2 - 'cause she new it sucked and she did it just of the money? I hope not, but after reading your posts it looks like it was ONLY for the Money...As for your reference to Michael Jordan, MJ never told his fans to FO like you have. What happened to you?

And another point, I may be wrong, but didn't you used to bust Rusty's balls all the time, now you are his stable mate - isn't that the definition of a sell-out? The OLD Phil is turning in his grave...

I have heard you loud and clear - you will not be doing the OLD SHOW - too bad, but I get it. I just wish you weren't so hateful and greedy...

Although I will not be listening I do wish you peace and luck with your life...

Go ahead and call me names and tell me to FO, I am ready for it...

Hey Phil,
Can't really blame you for doing what gets you the green, a mans gotta eat, and I am suprised to hear that your old format was loosing momentum, it was the most unique thing I have ever heard on radio. I never listened to radio for more than 5 minutes at a time until I found your show.
I wouldn't say your new show sucks, I think its great for what its meant to be, its just different like you say.

The old show was perfect as is, if you feel you hit a point where there is no more growth, it is because you had mastered it. If the main reason your not doing it now is because of the dough.. well damn, I find it hard to believe it didn't make enough money.

please don't make me suck your dick...

Jun. 2006 to Jun. 2007 you made the wrong on all accounts. It happens. If you want to do a generic talk show, that's fine, but you are selling out. Period. Hey Phil,

To be honest, I haven't listened to your show in a few years, so this won't be a critique on your work as of late (you could breath a sigh of relief now). I just wanted to say that I was happy to learn that you decided to come back on the air. I thought you had quit radio for good.

I'm currently catching up on all the Howard Stern stuff I missed back when I was busy listening to you, Neil Rogers, Rick and Suds, and all the other shows that came and went on 610 WIOD in Miami. I was so hardcore back then, I made enough tape recordings of your show to fill up three shoeboxes. I even managed to "MacGyver" a way to record your show from the internet back when you first started at KFI. Remember, this was 1997. No Total Recorder. :)

Anyways, I wanted to say that even though you're not willing to go back to your old format (which I really wish you'd reconsider at some point), I just wanted to thank you for all those years of laughter.

Phil I'm a fan but If you think that your new format, a format you use to rail against nearly day to day on an amazing and unique radio show will fly, then I must tell you that the last thing America needs is another person on the radio telling listeners about the "news" or about "current events" in their own way or even with an "expalination". So you say no Herb, Ted, or Vernon...Fine...but give your FANS some new shit man, some new characters. You only have a fan base because of that "classic" material and not to honor your fans is out of line. I know that you say it's all dead...if thats true...you won't last a month, and if you do...then have fun talking to the conservative morons who listen to TRN overnight. The same ones who's parents (they probably still live at home) won't let them listen to Coast to Coast because it'll make their 60 year old war vet UFO sighting asses go even more batty then they already are. I'll give your show a chance (over the internet, as PHX isn't carrying the show, but man, don't get pissed off at us who like the old show and the characters. It was original, and there are damned few original things in entertainment these days.

Oh, and you will love this, Combover Boy is not on in PHX again, Free FM got dumped. Its especially sweet as Combs loves PHX (he has 2 or 3 ex wives here) and he has now been kicked to the curb about 5 times in the last few years, its a beautiful thing.

As far as your new show is concerned. It "appears" to be no different than other right-leaning shows, but I will continue to listen because I agree with your ideology. I agree with Rob - I thought this third night was a lot more loose and relaxed! Unfortunately, the show runs a little late for me since I get up so early in the morning, but I was enjoying the feel of the first hour and a half last night.

It reminded me of one of the old bits where you were acting out what you would have done, had you been Duke Cunningham (after he was busted), or when you did that hilarious take on Principal "Diddle" after the Mepham High School thing happened.

I love those kinds of things because they sound so improvised, and to me, really made your talent shine as you ploughed wildly through those bits at a million miles an hour! Adrenaline rushhhh! :)

Anyway, I liked last night, and will certainly be tuned in tonight to see how things progress. Keep up the great work!

FYI, Phil is definitely getting warmed up. With the new just talk format, he's getting funnier each night I'd say. I always enjoyed what Phil had to teach, but a lot of fans found the show rather dry.

I actually used to dig the commentary parts of the old show. The voices were funny and great - but I am looking forward to the new format. Thanks for the info - I hope this guys' site doesn't get shut down... Don't be too touchy Phil - we won't sell your stuff!

Cheers

Ok maybe I'm a dumbass but what IS "SFJ"? Anyone got a link? Just curious, you know. And Phil? If people want the old show, they can get a BSP and download them like everyone else (long, longtime pass holder here). I, for one, applaud you for evolving your show in whatever direction YOU want it to go in. Now THAT is true integrity! Thanks for never selling out!

hi thom bone- sfj is a place for unrelenting losers.

The new show blows and blows heartily. It's like listening to Dennis Miller's show, where there are glimpses of the old guy we used to love surrounded by long stretches of being told that those who don't support the war are suicidal and naive hippy wannabes... but don't you dare call him a republican.

For old time's sake: Life Imitates Phil

6/26/07 Episode of the new show. Phil rambles while his stations commercial plays over his voice and you can barely hear him.

Much like Bud playing bongo music over Phil on the old show as Phil goes on about the Middle East and or the Muslim faith.

Phil's Life Imitates Phil

For all of those that have received the finger and otherwise been directed to offensive member ..

we'll see ya soon.

Please, please, please, please, please come back and do your old show again. I've never heard anything so funny, and I never had it in my market until moving to Tampa in 2005.

I have a backstage pass and listen pretty much every day, sometimes to the same bits over and over. Your 2006 stuff was just as classic as that which preceded it, and I think you must be just as sharp now.

No one can do what you do! And I doubt that you've lost your touch....

Thanks Phil!

ah now youre making sense. im not really interested in the new show, i dont mind you not doing voices but you just sound unhappy and listening to you take calls from retard callers and fake being nice to them makes me sad for you. i enjoy your political talk, hearing your educated opinion, but you just sound really bummed and fake doing straight talk a little too straight. ill tune in again in a couple months, hopefully youll have hammered out the kinks by then. best, mike

Ok, I've managed to listen a couple of times and although the second show was a little strange, Friday's was really funny. Phil, you shouldn't really be talking to real people on the phone, it sounds awkward to me.
I like the new show. It's like the old show, but with a twist. Put it this way, in my personal opinion there are very few people who can make radio really entertaining and engaging whatever they're doing with it. You're one of the chosen few pal.

Will you ever get to the point where 9/11 doesn't hurt so freshly for you? You're not going to convince the way-lefties like Rosie O'Donnell to change their point of view. And the right-wingers are somewhat on "your side" about the issues (although they're distancing themselves at a record clip).

Being an alarmist doesn't make you "informed" or "intelligent". And carbombs in London are not proof that Bush is right any more than dead soldiers are proof that he's wrong. You need to look at your own goverment with more of a critical eye to really be the liberal you claim you are. You can hate terrorists, love America, and also question the Bush administration. You're an American, not a resident of Bushillvania.

Phil, like others have mentioned, I always enjoyed your commentary, oftentimes more than the bits. I wish you the best of luck on the new show. I have to say though, your kind of a jerk to your fans, you created a brilliant show and your upset that people don't want to believe its dead?
